The atrocities in Gaza must end. Now. You can help.

The three boys on the left are Khaled, Yousef, and Hamouda—2, 4, and 9 years old.

They are currently buried beneath the rubble in Gaza.

The collage on the right is the family of Dr. Mohammad Nassar, an economist researcher. They were full of life, but the Israeli occupation violently ended their lives. No one survived — not a child, not a woman, not a man, not even the elderly.

Israeli warplanes targeted an area near Radhi Station, west of the Nusseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 members of Dr. Nassar’s family. They are:

* Ahmed Abdel-Hadi Nassar, his wife.
* Their daughters: Asma, Hoor, Noor, and Mirna.
* Elderly Neama Abdelhadi Nassar
* Elderly Ibtisam Ezzat Nassar
* Amani Abdel Hadi Nassar
* Her four children: Jana, Maha, Abdul Rahman, and Ruba
* Hamza Zakaria Nassar
* Malik Zakaria Nassar

The UN issued a warning on May 20 that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza over the next 48 hours if humanitarian aid is not permitted by Israel.

Since the horrible Hamas October 7, 2023 attack an estimated 53,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli forces according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Hamas’ attack that killed over 1,100 people and took hostages was a brutal act of terrorism. Few would argue against Israel’s right to defend itself. Israel says its military actions are meant to eliminate Hamas, which it considers a terrorist organization that poses an ongoing threat to its civilians. This is true.  However, their response has gone well beyond self-defense.

The Israeli government argues that Hamas embeds itself within civilian areas, making civilian casualties an unfortunate but unavoidable result.

Entire neighborhoods have been flattened. Hospitals, schools, and UN shelters have been bombed. This level of destruction far exceeds what is considered proportionate in international humanitarian law.

Israel has imposed total sieges, cutting off food, water, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents. This punishes the entire population for the actions of a few—explicitly prohibited under Article 33 of the Geneva Conventions.

Numerous organizations—including UN bodies, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch—have documented likely war crimes by Israel.

The ICJ (International Court of Justice) has found it “plausible” that Israel is committing genocide, and the International Criminal Court (ICC) may soon issue arrest warrants.

On May 20, 2025 the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, issued a joint statement with France and the UK in which they said,

“We call on the Israeli Government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza… The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching International Humanitarian Law. We condemn the abhorrent language used recently by members of the Israeli Government, threatening that, in their despair at the destruction of Gaza, civilians will start to relocate. Permanent forced displacement is a breach of international humanitarian law.”

The statement also said, “… we are committed to recognizing a Palestinian state as a contribution to achieving a two-state solution and are prepared to work with others to this end.”

This statement is merely a small start. Statements in and of themselves do not accomplish much. Only action will force changes.

I am definitely not an expert on the Middle-East or the Israeli-Palestinian ongoing conflict. However, I do know Israel’s actions since Oct 2023 are only permittable because the US, Canada, the UK, and the rest of the world have allowed it to happen.

It’s clear the US, under the Biden administration or today’s Trump administration, have not and will not likely take decisive action to end the travesty taking place in Gaza. We all know they could end it. Their military and financial support enables Israel’s continued destruction of Gaza. Canada, France, and the UK also provide support.

Hopefully, Canada, France, and the UK will begin to take actions to bring this to an end. Perhaps they can pressure the US to support an end to Israel’s horrific genocidal policies.

They must work towards an immediate ceasefire that is adhered to; end military aid to Israel if it’s used in ways that violate international law; create economic sanctions or other means to pressure Israel to end their current actions in Gaza; push for accountability through international mechanisms like the ICC.

We may think as individual citizens that our voices and actions cannot make a difference.

I understand that notion. I think it constantly as my newsfeeds are bombarded with the atrocities taking place in Gaza with the world’s disconnection from it all.

I urge my fellow Canadians to join me in writing our members of Parliament to end the violence in Gaza. You can find your MP here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en

Below is a template of a letter to help you to write your MP. Make it your own by making any changes that reflect your wishes. You can also use it to write to our Prime Minister, Mark Carney.

On behalf of Khaled, Yousef, Hamouda, and Dr. Mohammad Nassar’s families, as well as Palestinian families in Gaza and around the world, thank you.

May peace be upon you.

Dear [MP’s Name],

I am writing to you as a concerned resident of [your riding] and a constituent who is deeply disturbed by the catastrophic violence being inflicted on the people of Gaza by the Israeli military.

Since October 7, over 53,000 Palestinians—many of them women and children—have been killed. The destruction of hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and civilian homes is unacceptable. The International Court of Justice has found it “plausible” that Israel’s actions may amount to genocide.

Canada must take immediate and concrete action to uphold international law, protect civilian lives, and stop this atrocity.

I urge you to

  1. Publicly support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
  2. Call for an end to all arms sales and military cooperation with Israel.
  3. Support Canada’s role in international accountability efforts, including at the ICJ and ICC.
  4. Demand full and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.

I believe Canada’s moral standing in the world depends on standing up for human rights and justice consistently, not selectively. I ask you to reflect that in your role as my representative.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing action on this urgent issue.

Sincerely,  [Your Full Name]  [Your Riding Name]  [Your Email (if emailing)]
