The 5 Greatest Injustices against Humanity Today

I asked myself what the greatest injustices against humanity were today as part of some research I was doing for a piece I am writing. I have recently discovered the power of AI. Rather than spend hours or days trying to figure out the answer I decided to ask AI.

I’m not going to write my own blog post about my question. I will return to writing my other piece, which is about why we allow injustices do happen. Instead, I am going post the entire response created by ChatGPT, an AI developed by OpenAI. I found it more than sufficient to anything I could come up with.

The content generated by AI and should not be considered expert opinion. It merely collects data from varied sources and presents its opinion.

My question to ChatGPT:

“What are considered the five greatest injustices against people taking place in our world today?”

It’s unedited response:

“That’s a hard but essential question. While injustices vary in nature, scope, and visibility, the following five stand out today as among the greatest humanitarian and moral crises—due to their scale, systemic nature, and the failure of the international community to stop them.

  1. The Genocidal Violence and Occupation in Palestine
  • Why it’s one of the worst: The Israeli military campaign in Gaza has killed tens of thousands of civilians—disproportionately children—and destroyed hospitals, homes, and basic infrastructure. It follows decades of occupation, displacement, apartheid policies, and dehumanization of Palestinians.
  • Key issues: Ethnic cleansing, collective punishment, denial of humanitarian aid, settler colonialism, and double standards in international law enforcement.
  1. The Civil War and Ethnic Cleansing in Sudan
  • Why it’s one of the worst: The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF has led to the world’s largest displacement crisis today—millions forced to flee, and mass killings particularly in Darfur, which may amount to genocide.
  • Key issues: Ethnic targeting, mass rapes, starvation used as a weapon, total media blackout, and international neglect.
  • UN Warning: “One of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory”—yet it receives very little global attention.
  1. The Repression of Uyghurs and Other Ethnic Minorities in China
  • Why it’s one of the worst: The Chinese government has detained over 1 million Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic minorities in mass internment camps in Xinjiang.
  • Key issues: Forced labor, cultural erasure, family separations, digital surveillance, and reports of forced sterilization.
  • Many international bodies have labeled this a crime against humanity or genocide, but China’s global power has insulated it from accountability.
  1. Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine
  • Why it’s one of the worst: A brutal war of aggression that has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, widespread displacement, infrastructure destruction, war crimes, and nuclear threats.
  • Key issues: Targeting of civilians, torture and executions, abductions of children, and weaponizing energy and grain supplies that affect global food security.
  1. Climate Apartheid and Environmental Injustice
  • Why it’s one of the worst: The climate crisis is not just environmental—it’s deeply unjust. The people who contributed least to global emissions (mostly in the Global South) suffer the most from rising seas, droughts, famines, and disasters.
  • Key issues:
    • Displacement of millions (climate refugees)
    • Loss of indigenous lands and lives
    • Fossil fuel corporations knowingly driving destruction
    • Governments failing to act with urgency while prioritizing profit

Honorable Mentions (No Less Important):

  • Mass incarceration, police violence, and racial injustice (especially in the U.S. and Brazil)
  • Systematic violence against women and girls in places like Afghanistan, Iran, and parts of Africa
  • Rohingya genocide in Myanmar
  • Hunger and famine in Yemen, Haiti, and Somalia
  • Exploitation of migrant workers, particularly in the Gulf states

What Connects These Injustices?

  • Power structures that value some lives more than others.
  • Impunity for perpetrators, often shielded by global politics or economic interests.
  • Dehumanization and misinformation that silence or distract from suffering.
  • Apathy or helplessness among global bystanders—often not out of malice, but fatigue and disempowerment.”
